Purpose statement
The aim of the experiment was to examine the effects that lauric acid had on lipid droplet area compared to the area of lipid droplets when oleic acid was added to HeLa cells. Research has shown that oleic acid increases lipid droplet formation in HeLa cells (Takir et.al.). Thus, the positive control is oleic acid, and the negative control is 50 % ethanol. The experimental group will contain lauric acid.

Lauric ACidFigure legend: Representative images for the experimental group (exposed to 400 micromolar lauric acid for 24 hours).
Image 1: Lipid droplets were stained green (LipidSpot 488 Lipid Droplet Stain, Biotium #70065), membranes were stained red (CF594 WGA, Biotium # 29023-1), and nuclei were stained blue (NucBlue Live Cell Stain, Invitrogen #R37605). Image 2: Shown are lipid droplets only and corresponds to image 1. |
